Our "baby doe" who is actually named Confetti but we don't call her that, was nest building yesterday. She is due to kindle any day now. This will be her first litter and her instincts so far have been really good. She just seemed so confused so I had to take a video of it. She keeps carrying around a mouth full of straw but she's just not sure what to do with it, or for that matter why she is carrying around straw in the first place.
Baby Doe figured it out a little while later and has since stopped nest building, but she was so cute I just had to share.
The babies are good, to them mom = jungle gym. Ches gets along so well with Kai(dog) that I wonder what would happen if I let them out together. Probably Ches would bite Kai and that would be the end of the happy friendship. Still, it's nice having a well trained dog who LOVES everything, accept the chickens they scare her (which is awesome and very funny!)
Awww, she is spotted! So adorable, look at that face.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the pill container in the hutch? Does the rabbit self-medicate? haha.
ReplyDeletemeemsnyc- Isn't she just cute, I really do love her spots and she is such a sweet bun.
ReplyDeleteTommy- Self-medicate... that made me chuckle!! When Baby Doe get's board she pulls all her hay out of it's container and likes to make a big mess. So I made a cheep toy out of an old pill bottle and added some dried beans to make noise. She picks it up and throw's it around and delights in scaring the other bunnies half to death! It makes for good entertainment!
It's going to be so hard (for me) to send them to camp. :( So adorbs!
ReplyDeleteJenne- You don't have to be around for camp day. One day in the cage next day in the freezer... maybe we'll do it when you're at work.
ReplyDeletedo you cull them yourself? if so, did you have any experience doing that before, or was it easy to pick up?
ReplyDeleteTommy- Yes we do it ourselves. Neither Jake or I had any experience before we had to cull one of our chickens that started laying internally(ouch). Having gotten that one death over with by necessity made it easier to face other more purposeful deaths. We learned it was not as hard as we made it in our heads.
ReplyDeleteThat's when we started to entertain the idea of rabbit raising. A lot of internet, book, video research was done (and when the time came to try our hand at rabbit "harvest" we watched a youtube video.) Honestly so much info can be gleaned online we felt comfortable or at the very least prepared for the task.
