Honeybee vs. Lawn

Now I'll be the first to step up and admit we have a huge huge lawn in our back yard. A few trees and not much else. So what are honeybees supposed to eat in my yard? Nothing. We have absolutely nothing to offer them. With that admission out of the way now what to do about it.

Get the book "Food not Lawns: How to Turn Your Yard into a Garden and Your Neighborhood into a Community" by: H.C. Flores. This book details easy ways to begin removing the lawn and adding garden space. By easy I mean smothering the grass with good composting materials, not back breaking ripping out the grass by hand. I will have pictures and videos of the whole process to document how easy it really is.

So back to the Honeybees, some say that the Colony Collapse Disorder is the proverbial canary in the coal mine for us humans. It's no wonder with most of Americans having all grass and no plants for nectar (see above admission).  What to do? Plant food! Wildflowers especially are very drought hardy so if you have water restrictions in your area that is an easy way to help with two issues: water saving, and bee food.
